Ski resorts worldwide are looking at all aspects of their operations to reduce their environmental footprint. Some are already operating their ropeways and snowmaking systems on 100% renewable energy. Others are creating financial incentives to travel by public transportation. Another important step is to reduce the CO2 emissions associated with grooming the slopes every evening.
Whether it’s the LEITWOLF, BISON or HUSKY, PRINOTH snow groomers are equipped with the latest engine and exhaust technology, Euromot Stage V, which are also enabled for the use of alternative fuels such as HVO and GTL. HVO in particular scores points over conventional diesel: It is produced from renewable materials, and combustion leaves behind up to 90% less CO2. Some of our customers are already working very successfully with these types of fuels.
But PRINOTH wants more, which means less – namely no CO2 at all! For the preparation of cross-country ski trails, smaller slopes and indoor ski halls, we have the world’s first commercially available electric and emission-free snow groomer, the HUSKY eMOTION.
But what about those larger ski slopes? We are on an excellent path: The LEITWOLF h2MOTION is a hydrogen concept vehicle that combines performance with sustainability. Whether equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell or a hydrogen combustion engine, the LEITWOLF h2MOTION is designed primarily for preparing slopes in larger ski resorts due to its power and size.
Following the unveiling of the LEITWOLF h2MOTION with a hydrogen combustion engine from FPT Industrial in September 2022, we are now subjecting the concept vehicle to intensive real-world testing. It celebrated its debut at the FIS World Cup in Flachau at the beginning of January as part of the PRINOTH fleet that prepared the slopes for the competition. The timing couldn't have been better, as the FIS World Cup in Flachau was celebrating its 30th anniversary.
With the LEITWOLF h2MOTION PRINOTH is paving the way forward for CO2-free slope preparation.
